CPAP - Mask

If you sleep on your side, there are several steps that you can take to help with this

  • You can buy a pillow specially designed for patients wearing a mask. This increases comfort and reduces leakage caused by mask distortion.
  • You can adjust your sleep position to ensure that you are not leaning on the mask while asleep
  • There are mask options which may be smaller and softer and possibly easier to manage with your sleeping positions.

This is common and will usually disappear quickly after use.

Check the mask settings, especially the headgear, which should not be too tight.

Clean your mask to ensure that there is no residue left on the mask when in use.

Ensure your face and mask is dry before use as water trapped between mask and skin can cause some skin irritation.

If the discomfort persists, please contact our Customer Service Team on 1800 24 02 02

It may be that the headgear or mask is not tight enough or the mask does not fit well. It can also happen if the mask is damaged or old and should be replaced. Also, having a beard can increase leakage. The mask will have a normal air leak through holes called an exhalation port/ valve in order to prevent rebreathing of Carbon Dioxide.

You should adjust the mask to ensure that there are no additional leaks going into your eyes while asleep.

Seek additional support if the adjustments do not solve the issue by contacting our customer support team.

The mask is incorrectly positioned, adjust the headgear. If it is worn out, please contact us to change it.

Use a moisturising cream. Be careful if you use additional Oxygen therapy, use water based creams only. It's important to get the balance between no leak with minimum pressure. In case of severe skin damage, please contact our Customer Service team immediately to arrange for a trial of another type of mask.
